Summer Newsletter

Hello everyone,

Here is my summer newsletter, a little late but I was waiting for the cover of my debut novel to be ready…

Fifty Minutes is available now to pre-order on Amazon:

and will be released on May 16th 2023.  It has started to all feel very real and I can’t wait to go to Waterstones and buy a copy!

I’m delighted to begin teaching again this week (Start Writing Your Novel and Write Your Memoir).  I’m excited about seeing everyone’s ideas develop and progress over the next six months.

I’m hoping to get to the South Hams Literary Festival next week. The schedule looks great and the lineup can be found here:

I’m also hoping to get to the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival, which runs from the 20th – 24th September. I’m keen to meet Santanu Bhattacharya, who won the Spread The Word Life Writing Prize in 2021 with his superb piece, The Nicer One. This is the same year I came highly commended with the piece I wrote about my father – Carving. You can read both in the online anthology:

Entering competitions can be a great route to developing your writer’s CV. There’s a good list of competitions you can enter here:

It’s worth keeping an eye on Spread the Word website. They run excellent courses/workshops; some are free, including this one on 21st November – ‘How to write an effective synopsis with YMU Literary.’

In October, I’m going to run an online creative writing workshop focusing on ‘character’.  This will be on Saturday 14th October 15.00-16.30. If you’re interested, please let me know and I’ll send you more details.

I have a couple of spaces left on the next six-month Start Writing Your Novel course (14.00-15.30 Monday 18th September 2023 – Monday 4th March 2024) Again, please email me if you’d like to book your place.

I’m looking forward to meeting more people who love writing this afternoon at The Hour Glass in Exeter. I organise these social events every 4-6 weeks for people to connect:

You are welcome to join!

Please forward this newsletter to anyone you think may be interested.

Thanks for reading and best wishes,
