Introduction to Poetry with Malcolm Hebron (Thursdays)(Exeter Phoenix)

This is a course for anyone who would like to deepen their understanding of poetry, through careful reading and creative writing. Each week we will look at some important poems from English literature in detail, and discuss how they work. What are they saying, and how? We will consider aspects such as form, style, rhythm, rhyme and ask how a poem speaks to us. You will be invited to write your own piece in response to what we have read and to share poems that have moved and inspired you.

Malcolm Hebron, DPhil, Fellow of the English Association. Malcolm took a doctorate at Oxford University and then taught English literature for many years at Winchester College. He has published several academic books, including ‘How to Read a Poem’ (Connell Guides), and numerous articles on poets. He has edited a journal for English teachers, writes his own poems and is passionate about sharing his love for literature with anyone who will listen!
